Semi-refined paraffin wax is a versatile, petroleum-derived product with a waxy, solid consistency, commonly used in various industrial and commercial applications. It is partially refined, containing a higher oil content (typically 0.5–2%) compared to fully refined paraffin wax, which makes it less pure but more cost-effective. Its properties include a white to off-white color, odorless nature, and a melting point usually ranging from 48°C to 66°C (118°F to 151°F), depending on the specific grade. Key characteristics: • Appearance: White to slightly yellowish, opaque solid. • Oil Content: 0.5–2%, giving it a slightly softer texture than fully refined wax. • Melting Point: Varies by grade, typically 48–66°C. • Uses: Widely used in candle making, packaging, cosmetics, rubber, and textile industries, as well as for coatings, adhesives, and polishes. It’s also employed in food packaging (e.g., cheese coatings) and as a lubricant or waterproofing agent. • Advantages: Cost-effective, good moldability, and suitable for applications where high purity isn’t critical. • Limitations: Higher oil content may affect clarity and hardness, making it less suitable for high-end cosmetic or food-grade applications compared to fully refined wax. Semi-refined paraffin wax strikes a balance between quality and affordability, making it a practical choice for many industrial purposes.
